Telescopic Handler - NPORS


Through a combination of targeted training and testing, the candidate will gain a CPCS Trained Operators Card (red).

Who is this course for?

This course is for individuals who are new to plant operations, or experienced operators wishing to gain their CPCS Trained Operators Card. 

Unit content

The course uses a combination of practical and theory training to allow the candidate to complete the learning outcomes

  • Describe the nature of the sector of industry and their role and responsibilities as a plant operator
  • Name and explain the purpose of principle components, the basic construction, controls and terminology
  • Conform with manufacturer’s requirements as per the operators handbook, other types of information source and relevant regulations and legislation
  • Explain need and function of documentation
  • Undertake all pre-use checks
  • Configure and ready for travel (site and highway)
  • Manoeuvre in confined spaces (with and without loads)
  • Configure and set-up for lifting and transferring duties
  • Explain actions required for hazards, underground and overhead services
  • Lift and remove various loads up to the full working height of the telehandler
  • Transfer and place loads accurately at given locations
  • Place and remove loads from a vehicle
  • Maintain safe working situations
  • Maintain safe and tidy working areas
  • Carry out shut down and securing procedures
  • Explain the loading and unloading procedures for machine transporting
Course duration

Novice Operators: 28 – 35 hrs
Experienced Workers: 14 – 21 hrs

Tests only:
Theory Test: 1 hr
Technical Test: 2 hrs
