Objectives

Through a combination of targeted training and testing, the candidate will gain a CPCS Trained Operators Card (red).

Who is this course for?

This course is for individuals who are new to plant operations, or experienced operators wishing to gain their CPCS Operators Card..

Unit content

The course uses a combination of practical and theory training to allow the candidate to complete the learning outcomes:

  • Describe the nature of the sector of industry and their role and responsibilities as a slinger signaller
  • Name and explain the purpose of differing types of lifting equipment and accessories, basic construction, uses and applications, characteristics and terminology
  • Conform with manufacturer’s requirements as per the technical data, other types of information source and relevant regulations and legislation
  • Interpret and extract information on all relevant documentation
  • Undertake all pre-use checks on nonspecialist lifting accessories and identify non-serviceable equipment
  • Explain procedures for placing nonserviceable items out-of-service
  • Identify centres of gravity and estimate weight of loads
  • Prepare the area of operation
  • Choose the relevant lifting accessory for a given load
  • Explain action required for hazards, underground and overhead services
  • Secure various loads to a lifting hook using the relevant lifting accessory
  • Ensure load balance and security Direct and guide the movement of loads to different locations
  • Accurately place loads
  • Arrange, use and comply with communication procedures
  • Maintain safe working situations
Course duration

Novice Operators: 14 – 21 hrs
Experienced Workers: 7 hrs
Additionally, candidates who require no
training can book the Theory and Technical
Tests only:
Theory Test: 1 hr
Technical Test: 1.20 hrs
